As a wedding photographer in Cork, I often get asked what is your favorite part of a wedding, for me it is the walk.

Let me explain the walk

When the groom is standing at the top facing forward and the music starts, you can see him go through every emotion while trying to play it off. The bridesmaids walk up and turn left, and he sneaks a glance towards them, knowing his stunning bride is about to make her entrance. As the wedding photographer, I am placed right in front of him, watching all the emotions he is going through. Regardless of what he says before, like "I will be fine" or "Focus on the women," they can never hide it. The bride makes her walk, clearly going through every emotion he is experiencing. That moment is the best part of every wedding for me. It's when the couple is stripped of all pretense, and they've never been as real as they are right then. When he turns around to see his beautiful bride only a few feet away from him, nervous smiles stretch, and every step of her walk feels like a mile. But once they lock eyes, they smile as if to say, "come here quickly." Once she reaches him, both their shoulders start to relax, knowing that the person who makes them stronger is now right beside them. For me, that walk is the best part of every wedding. When they say "I do," their shoulders relax even more, their smiles spread further across their faces, and I say to myself, "Hello, these are the two people I came to photograph," because the weight of the world has lifted. In my eyes, the walk is the most beautiful part of every wedding.
