How Long Do Wedding Photos Actually Take In Ireland?

Honestly?

I think couples are asking the wrong question sometimes.

It is not really:
“How long do wedding photos take?”

The real question usually is:
“Are we going to miss our own wedding day standing around posing for hours?”

And truthfully, I completely understand why couples worry about that.

A wedding day moves unbelievably fast.

There are a million moving parts.
People arriving.
Family emotions.
Timelines.
Nerves.
Hugs.
Music.
Guests pulling you in every direction.

Usually it is the bride who has organised most of it, so by the time the wedding day arrives she is running on complete autopilot in her own head trying to keep track of everything.

Then couple all of that with nerves and emotion and honestly it becomes impossible to remember every little part of the day clearly.

That is probably one of the reasons wedding photographers exist in the first place.

Not just to take photographs.

But to play the day back for couples afterwards.

The Morning After A Wedding

When I leave a wedding at night, I am usually heading home to unload thousands of images onto my storage drives and laptop.

The SD cards get named.
Everything gets backed up safely.
And before I even go to bed I already know exactly what I am doing the next morning.

I wake early anyway.
Usually around six like a robot at this stage.

Dogs walked by seven.
Home by eight.
Coffee made.
Laptop open.

And I start.

The very first thing I do is begin selecting images from the wedding while the memories of the day are still fresh in my own mind.

While going through thousands of images I am not just looking for “pretty photographs.”

I am looking for life.

Real smiles.
Real laughter.
The loud uncle causing chaos.
The girls laughing during morning prep.
Kids wandering into the aisle during the ceremony.
Parents softening emotionally while watching their children get married.

That is the stuff I care about most.

Usually before the couple have even woken up properly the next morning, I have already edited and sent over twenty or thirty sneak peek images to their phones.

And honestly I love that moment.

Because while they are waking up as husband and wife, suddenly their phone lights up and they are reliving the wedding all over again.

They can instantly send images to family and friends.
Post them online.
Laugh at moments they forgot even happened.

The buzz of the wedding keeps going.

Couples Rarely Remember Everything

One thing couples always say after sneak peeks land is:
“I don’t even remember that happening.”

And honestly that makes complete sense to me.

A wedding day is emotional overload.

You are greeting people.
Listening to speeches.
Trying to remember timelines.
Talking to guests.
Thinking ahead constantly.

You are living the day in real time while simultaneously trying to process one of the biggest moments of your life.

That is why candid wedding photography matters so much to me.

Because often the moments couples treasure most afterwards are the moments they never even realised happened.

A grandmother hugging a grandchild during the ceremony.

The bride’s father quietly watching her from the front row with this tiny soft expression of pride crossing his face for a split second.

Friends crying laughing during speeches.

Someone standing quietly looking at the memorial table thinking about a loved one who is no longer there.

Those moments matter.

And they happen fast.

I Don’t Believe In Pulling Couples Away For Hours

Personally, I do not believe in disappearing with couples for hours taking photographs while the party continues without them.

That is not how I work.

Of course we will create beautiful images together throughout the day, but I always want something happening inside the photograph.

Movement.
Laughter.
Connection.

Even if I gently guide couples into a pose, I want the moment inside it to feel real.

The funny thing is if you simply ask two people who love each other to look at one another properly, they usually smile or laugh naturally anyway.

Then once couples relax around me, the photographs become effortless because they stop thinking about “posing” altogether.

That is the goal.

I want couples to forget I am even the photographer.

I want it to feel like one of their own friends is simply there with a camera.

Because once people feel comfortable, life starts happening naturally around them and that is where the best wedding photographs always live.

Fast Sneak Peeks Matter More Than People Think

During Covid when weddings were tiny and family members could not travel, brides would often create WhatsApp groups with family all over the world.

I would drop sneak peeks into the group chat and suddenly the entire conversation would explode with emotion and excitement.

That stuck with me.

Because photographs are connection.

Humans live for connection.

And there is something really powerful about being able to relive your wedding day less than twenty four hours later while the emotions are still fresh.

Personally, I could never hold galleries for months and months.

Maybe some photographers can.
Maybe some are balancing photography around other jobs.

But this is my full-time life.

If I am not photographing weddings, I am editing them, walking the dogs or working on some other part of my business.

And honestly I love that.

What Makes A Wedding Gallery Successful To Me

Every photographer is different.

Every gallery will feel different.

For me personally, a successful wedding gallery is not about endless posed photographs.

It is about whether I can tell the full story of the day through the images.

The nerves.
The calm.
The madness.
The laughter.
The emotion.
The tiny moments couples missed completely.

I want people looking back through their gallery years later feeling like they are stepping through the wedding all over again moment by moment.

And one day decades from now when loved ones are gone, I want those photographs to pull couples straight back into those memories again.

Back to the voices.
The hugs.
The looks.
The atmosphere.

Back to that exact moment in time.

For me, that is what wedding photography is really about.

The rest is easy.
