I don't photograph every wedding, or every moment, the same way. Some moments need no direction at all. Others need a little guidance, beautiful light or something more creative. I move naturally between documentary storytelling, candid moments, relaxed couple portraits, family photographs and editorial-inspired images as your day unfolds. The style follows the moment, so your wedding never has to follow a photography style.

But a perfectly staged frame that impresses a judging panel will never carry the same weight as a split-second moment that actually happened. I photograph the day as it unfolds — the genuine craic, the unscripted tears, the quiet looks between people who matter. When the moment calls for it I stay completely unobtrusive. When a family group or a portrait needs a little structure, I give it. The style follows the moment. The moment is never forced to follow a style. Those are the photographs that still matter years later.

I hear this all the time. One of you doesn't mind the camera and the other would rather be anywhere else. And I understand it. Your wedding shouldn't suddenly become an eight-hour photoshoot because you've hired a photographer.
When I arrive in the morning, I'm not looking to take control of the room. I'll have a chat, probably get offered a cup of tea, have a laugh with everyone and start photographing what's actually happening. The nerves. The slagging. Your mam watching from the corner. The kids causing havoc. All the little things that weren't written into the wedding plan.
That's the documentary side of how I photograph weddings. I'm watching and listening far more than I'm directing.
But I won't spend the entire day hiding behind a curtain pretending I don't exist either. When beautiful light appears, I'll use it. If you need a little direction, I'll give it. And when Ireland hands us one of those ridiculous landscapes, I'll happily put you right into the middle of it and create something worthy of the wall.
Twenty-five years of landscape photography probably has something to do with that. I still look at light, weather and scenery the same way. Only these days there's usually a newly married couple standing in the middle of the frame.
Then I'll go straight back to photographing your dad laughing at the bar, your friends messing outside or your grandmother having the time of her life.
A wedding changes constantly. Some moments should be completely candid. Some deserve a beautiful portrait. Family photographs are important. A dramatic landscape might become your album cover. Later, a little off-camera flash can turn an ordinary evening into something cinematic.
I move between documentary, candid, natural, portrait, editorial, traditional and creative wedding photography as the day calls for it. I don't really stand there thinking about which style I'm shooting. After doing this for long enough, you just see the photograph.
My job is to tell the whole story and give you photographs that feel like your wedding, not photographs designed to make your wedding look like somebody else's.

Forever and Eternity include a handcrafted 30 × 30cm / 12 × 12" wedding album, designed around up to 80 photographs from your day. You’ll have a choice of finishes, but if you ask me which one I’d choose, I’ll nearly always point you towards the Acrylic Prestige.
The crystal-clear acrylic cover gives the photograph real depth and the lay-flat design lets the story flow beautifully across the page. It feels substantial without being fussy, and it’s exactly the kind of album I want my couples to still be taking down from the shelf years from now.
No long wait afterwards
I aim to share a small selection of sneak peeks as soon as I can after your wedding. If I’m not photographing another wedding the following day, that can often mean the very next day. Your complete gallery is delivered within 4–6 weeks, although, as many of my reviews mention, it’s often considerably sooner.
Your photographs are yours to keep
Your private online gallery makes it easy to view, share and download your photographs in high resolution. Intimate and Moments galleries remain online for 3 months, while Memories, Forever and Eternity galleries remain online for 6 months. You can download as often as you like while your gallery is live. Once it arrives, I always recommend downloading the complete collection and keeping at least one extra backup somewhere safe, as the online gallery isn’t intended as permanent cloud storage.

The longer I do this job, the more I've realised that a wedding doesn't need one photography style. It needs a photographer who knows when to change.
That's how I photograph a wedding. I can be completely documentary one minute, gently directing a natural portrait the next, organising the family photographs, then creating something more polished, creative or editorial when the setting gives us the chance.
I don't want to arrive at your wedding with a style already decided and try to squeeze your day into it. Your people are different. Your venue is different. The light, weather, atmosphere and energy are different. So I adapt to what's actually in front of me.
