A Love Meant to Be — Ann Marie & Stuart’s Wedding at The Brehon Hotel, Killarney

Love That Took the Long Way Home

Some love stories are wild and fast. Others? They simmer quietly for years.

Ann Marie and Stuart met when they were just 17. It was in a nightclub in Kenmare — the kind of chance meeting that sets something in motion. For a year, they shared something special. Then life stepped in, as it often does, and took them down separate paths.

A Decade passed. They both walked different paths, lived full lives. But that thread between them? It never fully snapped. Somewhere deep down, something unfinished waited.

Until Destiny called in a favour from her old friends — Life and Faith.

And with a nudge from all three… those two paths finally crossed again.

A Wedding in the Heart of Kerry

The big day took place at the stunning Brehon Hotel in Killarney, right in the heart of County Kerry. This venue has elegance built into its walls. Warm staff. A ceremony room filled with natural light. And views of the Kerry landscape just outside.

It was the perfect spot for a reunion 20 years in the making.

Your Cork & Kerry Wedding Story

Many couples choose to celebrate across two counties — with a beautiful church ceremony in Cork and a lively reception in Kerry. It’s the best of both worlds: Cork’s historic charm meets Kerry’s epic scenery. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings that cross this Cork–Kerry border, and it always creates something unique.

Couples often say the same thing about their day:

  • “James fit in so well with the Kerry crowd he may as well put Kerry based photographer on his profile!”

  • “He was outstanding with my children… the photos turned out beyond what we could have imagined.”

  • “We’re over the moon with the photos — they capture us, not just the day.”

  • “A master of his craft, one of the best photographers in the country.”

  • “From the moment he entered the room, we were laughing — he changed my mood from bridezilla to relaxed.”

That’s the kind of feedback that keeps me going.

Finally

To have someone capture the emotional rollercoaster of a wedding that moves from Cork’s quiet chapels to Kerry’s wild mountains is a privilege. My couples often tell me it’s like reliving the day when they open their album — the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments that only happen once.

If you’re crossing the Cork–Kerry line for your wedding, let’s make it a story worth keeping.

She sat so still. Hair perfect, makeup done, the room full of quiet excitement.
But it hadn’t hit her yet. Not really.
Then the veil came down.
Soft, gentle — like a whisper.
And that was it.
Her breath caught. Eyes welled.
She wasn’t just getting ready anymore.
She was the bride.
Next up for editing tomorrow is Ann Marie and Stuart’s wedding.
I’ve known Ann Marie and her family a long time — in and out of each other’s lives as time passed. So when she said, “Jim, will you capture my wedding?” — it was a huge honour.
Yeah, I go by Jim or Jimmy around Macroom. James online because, well, that’s what I was christened. But to Ann, I’m Jimmy.
I didn’t know much about Stuart, but when I met him that morning, I knew straight away — yeah, he’s her one and only.
But there’s one moment in this wedding — in this image — that stops me every time. It’s the moment she becomes the bride.
I hear it all the time in this job — you’ll feel it, they say. You’ll know when you become the bride.
It’s when the nerves fall away, and the day takes over.
In this shot, I’m standing right in front of her.
“You ok?” I ask.
“Yeah,” she says with a little smile.
The hairdresser gently brings the veil over her head, starts fixing it —
And she breaks. Just for a second.
“Oh God, Jimmy…”
“You’re alright, Ann,” I said. “It’s your time, girl. You’re becoming the bride.”
It’s the most beautiful image.
I think you’ll all feel it too.

A Day Built on Family, Real Emotions & Deep Connections

Ann Marie’s daughter cried, laughed, hugged, and danced — all within one hour. That’s the power of a day like this.

Her brothers stood proud as she walked down the aisle. Her parents? Present. Supportive. Beaming.

On Stuart’s side, the love was the same — quiet but strong, like a family who had already decided, “she’s one of us.”

And the moments weren’t forced. No big performances. No fake laughter. Just two people, surrounded by everyone they love, doing exactly what they were meant to do: love each other.

Photographing This Kerry Wedding Was Pure Joy

There are weddings where you feel like a guest. Then there are weddings like this — where you feel like family.

We started the day with coffees and breakfast laid out on the table. The welcome was warm, natural, and full of humour (the good kind, the dry Irish kind).

I got to photograph not only two people in love, but their beautiful children, proud siblings, and the absolute highlight —Ninety-six and ninety-seven years old. Seventy years married. Let that sink in.
