Dave & Julie’s Stunning Summer Wedding at Gougane Barra

Bride and groom lost in the enchanting woods of Gougane barra Cork Ireland

When Gougane Barra comes to life in summer, it’s like something from a fairytale—lush, vibrant, and drenched in color. But let’s be real, this is Ireland, and a blue-sky, sun-soaked day is as rare as hen’s teeth! Yet, somehow, Dave & Julie lucked out with absolute perfection for their wedding day.

Dave, a proud New Zealander, and Julie, a Cork native now living in New Zealand, tied the knot in one of the most breathtaking wedding locations in Munster—Gougane Barra. Their ceremony took place just outside Gougane Barra Hotel, with the stunning valley and mountains as their backdrop. Imagine saying your vows in front of that view!

An Irish Wedding Photographer’s Dream

For me, this was as local as it gets—a Cork wedding in my backyard, quite literally! Knowing Julie’s family made the day even more special, and my familiarity with Gougane Barra meant I knew exactly where to get the most magical shots.

After the ceremony, we wandered into the mystical forests of Gougane Barra, partly for a break from the sun (which was blazing down during the vows) but mostly to soak in the incredible natural beauty that these ancient woods hold. If you ever visit, get lost in these fairytale-like trails—it’s pure Disney magic in real life!

Epic Wedding Portraits in the Heart of Munster

Nothing was too much for this couple—they were up for anything! They even climbed across ancient riverbed rocks to get into position for some dramatic, landscape-style wedding portraits. If you’re looking for wedding photography in Cork or Kerry, let me tell you—this spot is unbeatable.

Your Cork & Kerry Wedding Story

Many couples choose to celebrate across two counties — with a beautiful church ceremony in Cork and a lively reception in Kerry. It’s the best of both worlds: Cork’s historic charm meets Kerry’s epic scenery. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings that cross this Cork–Kerry border, and it always creates something unique.

Couples often say the same thing about their day:

  • “James fit in so well with the Kerry crowd he may as well put Kerry based photographer on his profile!”

  • “He was outstanding with my children… the photos turned out beyond what we could have imagined.”

  • “We’re over the moon with the photos — they capture us, not just the day.”

  • “A master of his craft, one of the best photographers in the country.”

  • “From the moment he entered the room, we were laughing — he changed my mood from bridezilla to relaxed.”

That’s the kind of feedback that keeps me going.

Finally

To have someone capture the emotional rollercoaster of a wedding that moves from Cork’s quiet chapels to Kerry’s wild mountains is a privilege. My couples often tell me it’s like reliving the day when they open their album — the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments that only happen once.

If you’re crossing the Cork–Kerry line for your wedding, let’s make it a story worth keeping.
