Seems like I’ve lived in Gougane Barra this year — I’ve lost count of how many weddings I’ve photographed here. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
This time it was Eimear & Philip’s turn to tie the knot at St. Finbarr’s Oratory, the little church in the valley that draws visitors from all over the world. One of the things I love about Gougane is that when you step out of the church, you might be greeted not just by your wedding guests but also by cheers from tourists exploring the place. It gives the day this warm, almost festival-like atmosphere.

Morning at Gougane Barra Hotel
I first popped into Gougane Barra Hotel, where Eimear and her bridesmaids were getting ready. The girls were in flying form — jokes, laughs, and plenty of energy flowing. By the time I nipped down to catch the lads arriving about half an hour before the ceremony, spirits were already high.
Back upstairs, Eimear stepped into her dress, and wow — she looked incredible. Every detail was thought out and perfectly laid.
Ceremony at St. Finbarr’s Oratory
There’s something innocent and beautiful about two people in love on their wedding day. During the ceremony, Eimear and Philip were like school kids, smiling, laughing, and completely wrapped up in each other. For me as a photographer, that’s gold. I feed off the joy in the room, I have the craic with guests, and that’s how I get the real smiles — the kind that can’t be faked.
Your Cork & Kerry Wedding Story
Many couples choose to celebrate across two counties — with a beautiful church ceremony in Cork and a lively reception in Kerry. It’s the best of both worlds: Cork’s historic charm meets Kerry’s epic scenery. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings that cross this Cork–Kerry border, and it always creates something unique.
Couples often say the same thing about their day:
“James fit in so well with the Kerry crowd he may as well put Kerry based photographer on his profile!”
“He was outstanding with my children… the photos turned out beyond what we could have imagined.”
“We’re over the moon with the photos — they capture us, not just the day.”
“A master of his craft, one of the best photographers in the country.”
“From the moment he entered the room, we were laughing — he changed my mood from bridezilla to relaxed.”
That’s the kind of feedback that keeps me going.

Finally
To have someone capture the emotional rollercoaster of a wedding that moves from Cork’s quiet chapels to Kerry’s wild mountains is a privilege. My couples often tell me it’s like reliving the day when they open their album — the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments that only happen once.
If you’re crossing the Cork–Kerry line for your wedding, let’s make it a story worth keeping.

Reception at Killarney Heights Hotel
Our plan had been to swing into Killarney National Park for photos (I’d even secured a permit weeks beforehand), but Irish weather had other plans. A bit of rain came in, so instead we went straight to The Killarney Heights Hotel, and honestly, the craic only ramped up from there.
The staff at the Heights always look after guests in style, and by the time Eimear & Philip arrived, the weather had eased off. A few showers didn’t matter — everyone was buzzing.

The Party with Bog the Donkey
And then came the music. Bog the Donkey hit the stage and the dancefloor was full in seconds. From young cousins to grandparents, everyone was hopping until late into the night. Watching Eimear & Philip still laughing together on the dancefloor, just like they had at the church hours earlier, was the perfect ending to an incredible day.

Thank Yous 🙌
Huge thanks to Eimear & Philip for letting me be part of such a fun, beautiful day.
To the team at Gougane Barra Hotel for their warm welcome.
To the staff at Killarney Heights Hotel for looking after everyone so well.
To the glam squad: @thebeautysuite_macroom (makeup) and @muse.macroom (hair).
And of course, the legends @bogthedonkey for tearing up the dancefloor.
And last but not least, the guests — ye brought the laughter, energy, and love that made this day unforgettable.
