Kerry is known for Killarney, Dingle, and Kenmare — but the truth is, all of Kerry is stunning. Every corner of the Kingdom holds its own beauty. For Carol & Maria, their wedding took place in Cromane, a small but breathtaking spot I hadn’t photographed before. By the end of the day, I knew it was one of those special places that has it all.
When Carol & Maria got in touch, they were clear from the start. “James, just a small, intimate wedding. No big shindig. Just close family and friends. Could you capture it for us?” The date worked, though I told them honestly that I’d be flying back from Lanzarote the Saturday before. Flights can get delayed — better to be upfront. Thankfully everything ran smoothly, I landed home with a day’s rest, and was ready to head down to the Kingdom for their wedding.
Cromane is old Ireland at its best. Narrow roads, traditional houses, and sweeping views across mountains and sea. Photographing a wedding here felt like stepping into something timeless.
The ceremony took place at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. A bus full of family and guests pulled up outside, and soon after, Maria arrived — driven by Carol’s father. We had our bride, we had our groom, and it was time.
The priest was fantastic, the type who knew exactly how to make people feel at ease. As Maria walked up the aisle, the guests erupted in cheers. The priest grinned and said, “Well if ye cheered for her to arrive, what’ll you do when they’re married?” The whole church burst out laughing — it set the perfect tone.
Just 600 metres from the church, Jack’s Coastguard Restaurant was the reception venue — and what a spot. Overlooking the Kerry mountains and the Atlantic, with beautifully kept gardens and warm, welcoming staff, it was the perfect setting for Carol & Maria’s celebration.
That morning, thunder and lightning had swept across Munster. By the time we reached Cromane, the storm had passed, leaving behind dark and dramatic skies — a dream backdrop for photographs. The moody light and the raw energy of the landscape gave us endless possibilities.
And just a two-minute walk from Jack’s was the beach, giving us a chance to step onto the sand, breathe in the sea air, and capture even more magic.
What stood out most all day was how Carol & Maria looked at each other. From the moment Maria reached Carol at the top of the aisle, they couldn’t take their eyes off one another. Every laugh, every glance, every touch between them was real and full of love.
Carol was calm, grounded, steady — Maria brought sparkle, warmth, and energy. Together, they balanced and complemented each other perfectly. Watching them laugh and giggle throughout the ceremony and reception, and seeing how they naturally leaned into one another all day, was nothing short of magical.
This wasn’t just a wedding — it was a celebration of two people who were truly meant to be together.
Carol & Maria, thank you for trusting me to capture your day. And thank you to your family and friends for the welcome, the smiles, and the craic — it was an intimate Kerry wedding I’ll never forget.
Kerry has some of the most unforgettable wedding locations in Ireland. Whether you’re planning a wild adventure session in the mountains or a timeless celebration in Killarney, you’ll find every kind of backdrop here. I’ve photographed couples all across the county — and below are some of the most popular Kerry wedding pages to explore:
Each page is filled with real wedding stories, photos, and planning tips to help you picture your own celebration in Kerry.
Kerry isn’t just another location — it’s a place that demands to be photographed with care. From the wild weather shifts on the Gap of Dunloe, to the soft evening light on Muckross Lake, you need someone who knows how to adapt fast, tell your story honestly, and capture the real moments in between the poses.
That’s what I do. I don’t stage your day to look like someone else’s — I focus on the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments you’ll look back on in ten years with a smile. Having worked across every corner of Kerry, I know the light, the angles, and how to make sure you’re relaxed while I do the running around.
This isn’t about “just photos.” It’s about having a wedding story you can feel every time you open your album.
