Pamela & Niall’s Engagement Shoot at Owenahincha Beach – Cork

Owenahincha Beach Engagement Shoot | Pam & Niall

When I was chatting with Pam about planning their engagement shoot in Cork, she was genuinely thrilled. It was the perfect way for us to meet in person and for her and Niall to feel comfortable in front of the camera before their wedding day.

I suggested Owenahincha Beach near Rosscarbery, West Cork, a location I hadn’t photographed in a while. As the day unfolded, I found out the beach held a personal meaning for Niall — it was where his family used to spend time when he was younger. That unexpected layer of nostalgia made the whole session even more special.

A Relaxed Engagement Shoot in West Cork

Like with all my couples, we kept the shoot laid-back. We walked, we talked, and along the way I captured candid moments — the kind of natural photographs that tell a story.

Your Cork & Kerry Wedding Story

Many couples choose to celebrate across two counties — with a beautiful church ceremony in Cork and a lively reception in Kerry. It’s the best of both worlds: Cork’s historic charm meets Kerry’s epic scenery. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings that cross this Cork–Kerry border, and it always creates something unique.

Couples often say the same thing about their day:

  • “James fit in so well with the Kerry crowd he may as well put Kerry based photographer on his profile!”

  • “He was outstanding with my children… the photos turned out beyond what we could have imagined.”

  • “We’re over the moon with the photos — they capture us, not just the day.”

  • “A master of his craft, one of the best photographers in the country.”

  • “From the moment he entered the room, we were laughing — he changed my mood from bridezilla to relaxed.”

That’s the kind of feedback that keeps me going.

Why Choose JOD Photography

I don’t just move between Cork and Kerry on your wedding day — I help you enjoy it. I know the roads, the light, the angles, and I make sure you’re not worrying about logistics. You just enjoy the crowd, the craic, and the moment.

When couples ask about pricing, I keep it simple: fair, transparent, and no hidden extras. My packages start at €850 for smaller weddings and go up to €2550 for full-day coverage with albums included. You’ll always know exactly what you’re getting — no surprises, just honest value for work that lasts a lifetime.

Finally

To have someone capture the emotional rollercoaster of a wedding that moves from Cork’s quiet chapels to Kerry’s wild mountains is a privilege. My couples often tell me it’s like reliving the day when they open their album — the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments that only happen once.

If you’re crossing the Cork–Kerry line for your wedding, let’s make it a story worth keeping.

Natural candid couple portraits during engagement shoot in West Cork — JOD Photography

Owenahincha Beach, just outside Rosscarbery, is such a gem. It’s a wide sandy stretch perfect for an escape, with fresh sea air and that unmistakable West Cork backdrop. One of the highlights is the cliff walk that winds above the beach. Don’t worry — it’s safely fenced off, but you’ll still want to hold onto your hat if the wind picks up!

At one point, we wandered beyond the fence into an open patch of land, well back from the edge. It felt like we had the entire coastline to ourselves. This quiet moment was ideal for relaxed portraits, letting Pam and Niall simply enjoy being together while I worked in the background.

Why Engagement Shoots Matter

I always say engagement shoots are one of the best ways to prepare for your wedding photographs. They’re easy, fun, and a great ice-breaker. You get the chance to:

  • feel comfortable in front of the camera,

  • talk through your wedding timeline,

  • and give me, as your photographer, the chance to learn what works for you and what doesn’t.

By the time the wedding arrives, everything feels more natural. You’ll know how I work, and I’ll know how to capture the moments that suit your personalities.
