From Gougane Barra to Ballyvourney – A Photographer’s Journey with Elaine

Some weddings feel extra special because of the history you share with the couple. For me, Elaine is one of those people. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to capture some of her most important moments — from a maternity photoshoot in the magical Gougane Barra woods, to the day she graduated from college, to now, her wedding day.

So when Elaine told me she was marrying Danny and wanted me to photograph it, it wasn’t just another booking — it felt like closing a circle. From life milestones in West Cork to this perfect summer wedding at The Mills Inn, Ballyvourney, I was there for it all.

A Wedding Day Full of Sunshine and West Cork Charm

Elaine, from Inchegeela, West Cork, and Danny, from Belfast, brought together two very different corners of Ireland. The result? A wedding day with Northern humour, Cork warmth, and a whole lot of craic.

The weather played its part — the kind of blue-sky summer day that makes every colour pop. The gardens at The Mills Inn were a showstopper: green lawns, vibrant flowers, and the perfect outdoor setting for a heartfelt ceremony.

Your Cork & Kerry Wedding Story

Many couples choose to celebrate across two counties — with a beautiful church ceremony in Cork and a lively reception in Kerry. It’s the best of both worlds: Cork’s historic charm meets Kerry’s epic scenery. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings that cross this Cork–Kerry border, and it always creates something unique.

Couples often say the same thing about their day:

  • “James fit in so well with the Kerry crowd he may as well put Kerry based photographer on his profile!”

  • “He was outstanding with my children… the photos turned out beyond what we could have imagined.”

  • “We’re over the moon with the photos — they capture us, not just the day.”

  • “A master of his craft, one of the best photographers in the country.”

  • “From the moment he entered the room, we were laughing — he changed my mood from bridezilla to relaxed.”

That’s the kind of feedback that keeps me going.

Why Choose JOD Photography

I don’t just move between Cork and Kerry on your wedding day — I help you enjoy it. I know the roads, the light, the angles, and I make sure you’re not worrying about logistics. You just enjoy the crowd, the craic, and the moment.

When couples ask about pricing, I keep it simple: fair, transparent, and no hidden extras. My packages start at €850 for smaller weddings and go up to €2550 for full-day coverage with albums included. You’ll always know exactly what you’re getting — no surprises, just honest value for work that lasts a lifetime.

Finally

To have someone capture the emotional rollercoaster of a wedding that moves from Cork’s quiet chapels to Kerry’s wild mountains is a privilege. My couples often tell me it’s like reliving the day when they open their album — the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments that only happen once.

If you’re crossing the Cork–Kerry line for your wedding, let’s make it a story worth keeping.

Family and Friends From All Over the World

The guest list told its own story. Elaine’s family travelled from across Ireland, and her brother John made the long trip from America just to see his little sister say “I do.” Danny’s Belfast crew came ready to celebrate, and they didn’t disappoint — a mad, brilliant bunch who were up for every photo opportunity.

An Outdoor Ceremony with Heart and Community

The back garden at The Mills Inn, Ballyvourney transformed into a wedding dream. The altar was set out back in the shade, guests basked in the sunshine, and the atmosphere was relaxed but full of anticipation.

One of the most touching moments? The guard of honour formed by the young girls Elaine coaches in football. As she walked the red carpet towards Danny, they lined each side, smiling with pride. It wasn’t just a walk down the aisle — it was a walk surrounded by love, respect, and the community she’s helped shape.

Real Moments, Real People – My Style of Wedding Photography

As a West Cork wedding photographer, I thrive on weddings like this — nothing forced, no stiff posing, just capturing moments as they unfold. Laughter from Danny’s mates, hugs from family, the quiet glances between the couple when they thought no one was looking — that’s the gold.

The Mills Inn is the perfect venue for that style: intimate, rustic, and surrounded by nature. Whether you’re planning a big family wedding or a smaller West Cork elopement, Ballyvourney gives you those natural backdrops that make the photos timeless.

The gardens are a dream for photographers, and the staff? Pure sound. Always helpful, always smiling, nothing too much trouble.

It’s the kind of place where you feel at home the minute you arrive, and for Danny & Elaine’s wedding, it was the perfect fit.
