Relaxed summer wedding ceremony at The Village Barn in Westmeath

If you want wedding photographs that feel natural, with real laughs, very little awkward posing and plenty of time to actually enjoy your day, have a look at how I approach relaxed wedding photography in Cork.

Relaxed Wedding Photographer Cork

Relaxed Wedding Photographer Cork

If you’re looking for a Relaxed Wedding Photographer Cork couples can actually feel comfortable around, you’re probably looking for something fairly simple.

Beautiful photographs without spending half your wedding day posing for them.

That’s very much how I work.

I want the real laughs. The nerves. The hugs. The madness. Your friends being themselves. Your family being themselves. And all those little things happening around you that you probably won’t even notice until you see the photographs afterwards.

Of course I’ll help when you need me. I’ll organise the family photographs, find good light and give you a little direction when it helps.

But I don’t want your wedding to feel like one long photoshoot.

Your wedding should feel like a wedding.

You enjoy it.

I’ll photograph it.

What Does Relaxed Wedding Photography Actually Mean?

Relaxed doesn’t mean I turn up, hide behind a tree and leave everyone to figure it out themselves.

There are times during a wedding when you’ll need a little direction.

I’ll help organise family photographs. I’ll find good light. I’ll get the two of you comfortable. And if something needs moving along, I’ll help move it along.

But once something real is happening, I don’t need to manufacture another version of it for the camera.

If you’re laughing with your friends, laugh.

If your dad is trying not to cry, I’m watching.

If somebody is doing something ridiculous in the background, there’s a fair chance I’m watching them too.

That’s where a lot of my favourite photographs come from.

I guide when you need me. I disappear into the day when you don’t.

To Be Honest, It’s Pretty Easy

To be honest, it’s pretty easy when you treat people like people and not like another job.

I don’t really see wedding photography as turning up, doing my hours, ticking photographs off a list and going home.

I love the storytelling side of it.

And the best part is that you guys create the story for me.

Every wedding has characters.

We all have that friend who’s naturally hilarious.

That aunt who still thinks she’s a cool teenager.

That uncle with the laugh so loud that once he starts, half the room starts laughing with him.

The friend who’s always winding somebody up.

The quiet person who suddenly becomes a completely different human being once the music starts.

That’s the stuff I’m watching for.

And when I see it starting, I feed off it.

I’ll encourage it. I’ll laugh with you. I’ll throw something into the conversation if I know it’ll get a reaction. Sometimes I’ll deliberately create the spark, then stand back and let you lot take over.

That’s where the real laughs come from.

The real smiles.

The photographs where you can almost hear what was happening just by looking at them.

I’m Not Going to Micromanage Your Wedding

You’ve probably heard the horror stories.

“Our photographer was like a drill sergeant.”

Everyone being ordered around.

Hair and makeup being rushed because the photography schedule says you’re four minutes late.

People being marched from one photograph to another.

The couple constantly being told where to stand, where to look, what to do next.

That’s just not me.

Of course there are times when I’ll take charge. If we need to get twenty people together for a family photograph, somebody has to organise it or we’ll still be there at Christmas.

But I don’t want to control your entire wedding day.

I guide. I don’t micromanage.

I’ll help you.

I’ll laugh with you.

I’ll get involved when getting involved makes the photograph better.

I’ll create a little bit of laughter when we need it.

And then something happens naturally.

You relax.

You forget about what you’re supposed to be doing.

You start bouncing off each other.

And I just keep snapping away.

It really is that simple.

People Create the Moments. My Job Is to See Them.

That’s probably the best way I can describe what I do.

I can’t write the story of your wedding before it happens.

I don’t know which friend is going to say something ridiculous.

I don’t know when your dad is going to get emotional.

I don’t know which aunt is going to own the dance floor.

But I know how to watch for it.

After photographing hundreds of weddings, you start to recognise when something is about to happen.

You see the look.

You hear the conversation starting.

You notice somebody approaching from the other side of the room.

And you get yourself into position before the moment arrives.

That’s the part I love.

People create the moments. I just make sure they’re not lost.

And if you want to know whether I’m genuinely as relaxed as I’m telling you I am, don’t take my word for it.

Read my reviews.

My couples will tell you far better than I ever could.

The album I keep coming back to

A wedding album should feel as good as the photographs inside it.

Forever and Eternity include a handcrafted 30 × 30cm / 12 × 12" wedding album, designed around up to 80 photographs from your day. You’ll have a choice of finishes, but if you ask me which one I’d choose, I’ll nearly always point you towards the Acrylic Prestige.

The crystal-clear acrylic cover gives the photograph real depth and the lay-flat design lets the story flow beautifully across the page. It feels substantial without being fussy, and it’s exactly the kind of album I want my couples to still be taking down from the shelf years from now.

No long wait afterwards

See a little of it while it still feels fresh.

I aim to share a small selection of sneak peeks as soon as I can after your wedding. If I’m not photographing another wedding the following day, that can often mean the very next day. Your complete gallery is delivered within 4–6 weeks, although, as many of my reviews mention, it’s often considerably sooner.

Your photographs are yours to keep

Your private online gallery makes it easy to view, share and download your photographs in high resolution. Intimate and Moments galleries remain online for 3 months, while Memories, Forever and Eternity galleries remain online for 6 months. You can download as often as you like while your gallery is live. Once it arrives, I always recommend downloading the complete collection and keeping at least one extra backup somewhere safe, as the online gallery isn’t intended as permanent cloud storage.

You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose

This is one of the things I hear all the time.

“We’re awkward in photographs.”

“We hate having our photograph taken.”

“We haven’t a clue what to do.”

Good.

You don’t need a modelling career before you’re allowed to get married.

Most couples aren’t completely comfortable when somebody points a camera at them. That’s normal.

So I’m not expecting you to arrive knowing how to stand, where to look or what to do with your hands.

That’s my problem, not yours.

If you need a little direction, I’ll give it.

I might put you somewhere because the light is beautiful. I might get you walking instead of standing stiffly staring at me. I might give you enough direction to get you comfortable.

And then I’ll let the two of you take over.

Because I’m not looking for the perfect pose.

I’m looking for you.

The Photographs Look Natural Because the Day Is Allowed to Feel Natural

This is probably the simplest way I can explain my approach.

If I want photographs of you genuinely laughing, I’d rather give you the space to actually laugh than ask you to pretend.

If there’s emotion happening, I don’t need to interrupt it.

If your friends are having the craic, I’m not going to stop them and ask everyone to look at the camera.

I’ll photograph what’s actually happening.

That’s what natural wedding photography means to me.

Not completely directionless.

Not hundreds of photographs of the backs of people’s heads.

And definitely not spending the afternoon recreating moments that already happened perfectly well on their own.

Real moments don’t need to be recreated. They need to be noticed.

MOMENTS

Let’s Get the Craic Started

real, honest & completely unscripted

Whether you're planning a massive session in Cork, an elopement in Kerry, or a celebration somewhere further down the road, tell me everything. Share the details, the venue, the general plans, and exactly how camera-allergic you both are.

I reply personally to every message — usually within 24–48 hours.

Looking for a Fun Wedding Photographer in Cork?

There’s something slightly dangerous about describing yourself as a fun wedding photographer in Cork.

If you have to keep telling everybody you’re great craic, we may already have a problem.

So I’ll let my couples do that bit.

I talk to people. I have a laugh. I’ll join in with the craic. I’ll help settle the nerves when things get hectic.

I’m not going to spend the morning barking instructions across the room.

And I don’t suddenly become a different person because I’ve picked up a camera.

There’s actually a reason for that.

When people are comfortable around me, they eventually stop thinking about the camera.

And that’s when things get interesting.

    The laughs become real.

    People relax.

    The wedding takes over.

And I can get on with photographing it.

Natural Wedding Photography Is About More Than the Two of You

    Obviously you’re fairly important.

    It is your wedding.

But some of the best photographs won’t necessarily have either of you in them.

    Your parents.

    Your grandparents.

    Your friends.

Kids tearing around somewhere they probably shouldn’t be.

    Someone laughing during the speeches.

Someone else crying when they thought nobody was looking.

Two people talking at the bar.

A reaction happening on the other side of the room.

Those photographs matter because your wedding isn’t just a collection of pictures of the bride and groom.

    It’s a collection of people.

    Your people.

And twenty years from now, some of those seemingly ordinary photographs may be among the ones that mean the most.

Sometimes the Best Compliment Is Forgetting I’m There

A lot of the photographs I love happen when nobody is paying attention to me.

That’s one of the reasons being comfortable around your photographer matters.

At the beginning of the morning you’ll probably notice the cameras.

After a while, ideally, you stop caring.

    I’m still watching.

I’m watching the obvious things, of course.

But I’m also watching what’s happening around them.

    The glance across the room.

    Someone fixing a dress.

    A hand on a shoulder.

The reaction at the other end of the table.

Your friends absolutely losing it during a speech.

Something hilarious happening three people behind you.

Those little pieces eventually become part of the bigger story.

Romantic wedding photographs in the Fernhill House gardens

Real Laughs Beat Fake Smiles Every Time

I don’t have anything against smiling at the camera.

There’ll be photographs where we do exactly that.

But I don’t want your entire wedding gallery to be people looking at me waiting for me to press a button.

    I want movement.

    Reactions.

    Expressions.

The split second before somebody bursts out laughing.

The photograph after the photograph you thought I was taking.

That’s often where the good stuff lives.

And when people aren’t worrying about the camera, their personalities come through.

That’s what makes the photographs yours rather than just another set of wedding photographs.

A Calm Photographer Matters When the Day Isn’t Calm

Most weddings have a moment where something doesn’t go exactly according to plan.

    Someone is late.

    A button disappears.

    Flowers haven’t arrived.

Traffic has decided today is the day.

    The weather changes.

    The ceremony runs late.

    Dinner runs late.

    That’s a wedding.

My job isn’t to add another layer of panic.

    It’s to adapt.

After photographing hundreds of weddings, I’ve learned that there’s very little benefit in getting flustered when something changes.

We work with what we have.

    We find another way.

And usually, ten minutes later, nobody cares anyway.

Groom waiting at St Abina’s Church Clondrohid

Your Wedding Doesn’t Have to Look Like Anybody Else’s

I don’t arrive with a script for what your wedding is supposed to look like.

    Big hotel wedding?

    Brilliant.

Twenty people at a small ceremony?

    Brilliant.

    City wedding?

    West Cork?

A church packed to the doors?

A tiny ceremony where everybody knows everybody?

    They’re completely different days.

They should look different in the photographs too.

That’s one of the things I love about photographing weddings naturally.

I’m not trying to squeeze every couple into the same collection of poses.

Your photographs should look like your wedding.

So, Is Relaxed Wedding Photography Right for You?

Probably, if you’d rather enjoy your wedding than spend hours performing for a camera.

If you want photographs of the people you love being themselves.

If you want the family photographs without losing half the drinks reception.

If you’d like some beautiful photographs of the two of you without needing to learn how to pose.

If you want someone who’ll give you direction when you need it and leave you alone when you don’t.

And if a bit of craic along the way doesn’t bother you.

Then we’re probably on the same wavelength.

Does This Sound Like Your Kind of Wedding Photography?

You don’t have to love having your photograph taken.

You don’t have to practise poses.

And you definitely don’t have to organise your wedding around me.

    Come and enjoy your wedding.

I’ll photograph the important bits, the ridiculous bits, the people you love and plenty of things you won’t even know happened until you see the photographs afterwards.

If you’re looking for a relaxed wedding photographer in Cork who’ll help when you need it and let you enjoy the day when you don’t, send me your date.

I’ll tell you if I’m free and we’ll take it from there.

If you want wedding photographs that feel natural, with real laughs, very little awkward posing and plenty of time to actually enjoy your day, have a look at how I approach relaxed wedding photography in Cork.
