A Magical Day in Killarney: Ian and Orla’s Gleneagle Hotel Wedding

I’ll never forget Ian and Orla’s wedding at the Gleneagle Hotel. From the moment I arrived, there was something special in the air. You know those days when everything just feels right? This was one of them. Orla was the picture of calm as she got ready. Cool as a cucumber, that one! But oh, when she started walking down the aisle… The emotions hit her like a tidal wave. I could see it all over her face. Those raw, genuine moments are what I live for as a photographer. The Gleneagle Hotel looked stunning. The staff had outdone themselves, transforming the place into a fairytale setting. Everywhere I looked, there were little touches that made the day uniquely Ian and Orla’s.

The Gleneagle Hotel: A Killarney Gem
The wedding took place at The Gleneagle Hotel, one of the best spots in Killarney. It’s a fantastic 4-star hotel just a stone’s throw away from Killarney town. If you know the area, you’ll know it’s a prime location for weddings—loads of access to the National Park, Muckross House, and all those dreamy spots in Kerry for photos. The hotel staff were absolutely brilliant, too. Big thanks to them for keeping everything running smoothly throughout the day.

Mixed Weather, But Perfect for Photos
Now, the weather was a bit of a mixed bag that morning. You know how it goes in Kerry—could be sunshine one minute, rain the next. We had planned to head out to Muckross House and Eagles Nest for photos, and it looked a bit iffy at first. But just when we needed it, the weather calmed down enough for us to hop on the bus that Ian and Orla had booked for the bridal party and myself. We headed off to the locations, and I’m so glad we did. The photos came out beautifully, with the moody skies giving them a special touch.

Discover Weddings Across Kerry

Kerry has some of the most unforgettable wedding locations in Ireland. Whether you’re planning a wild adventure session in the mountains or a timeless celebration in Killarney, you’ll find every kind of backdrop here. I’ve photographed couples all across the county — and below are some of the most popular Kerry wedding pages to explore:

Each page is filled with real wedding stories, photos, and planning tips to help you picture your own celebration in Kerry.

Why Choose JOD Photography for Your Kerry Wedding?

Kerry isn’t just another location — it’s a place that demands to be photographed with care. From the wild weather shifts on the Gap of Dunloe, to the soft evening light on Muckross Lake, you need someone who knows how to adapt fast, tell your story honestly, and capture the real moments in between the poses.

That’s what I do. I don’t stage your day to look like someone else’s — I focus on the laughter, the nerves, the mad Irish weather, and the moments you’ll look back on in ten years with a smile. Having worked across every corner of Kerry, I know the light, the angles, and how to make sure you’re relaxed while I do the running around.

This isn’t about “just photos.” It’s about having a wedding story you can feel every time you open your album.

The Magic of Muckross and Eagles Nest
Muckross House never disappoints for wedding photos. The grand architecture, the gardens, and that backdrop of mountains—it’s just stunning. And then there’s Eagles Nest, which is a little more tucked away but equally magical. The whole bridal party was full of energy, and we had such a good time getting those shots.

A Day Full of Joy, Laughter, and Tears
This wedding really had it all—laughter, tears, and so much joy. The guests were amazing, the vibes were perfect, and Ian and Orla were just a dream to work with. A huge thank you to both of them for letting me capture their day, and another massive thank you to the incredible staff at The Gleneagle Hotel and the guests for making the day so much fun.
