A Wedding That Will Stay With Me Forever

Deirdre & Paddy’s Wedding in Cavan – A Day to Remember

As a wedding photographer traveling across Ireland, I have the privilege of witnessing love stories unfold in different corners of the country. Deirdre and Paddy’s wedding in Cavan was one that I will now remember forever. It’s funny how we become a part of other people’s memories, just as they become part of ours.

Before this wedding, I had never been to Cavan. It’s a small island, yet somehow, there are still places I haven’t visited. I think I’ve covered 26 or 27 counties now—so I’m nearly there! But this wedding was special for many reasons, and looking back now, I feel even more grateful to have been a part of it.

Remembering Deirdre’s Father

This wedding took place in 2021, but I write about it now not only to share the images of an incredible day but also to honor the memory of Deirdre’s beloved father, who has recently passed away.

I believe that every person deserves to be remembered, even in the smallest way. This is my way of remembering him. He was the first person I met that morning when I arrived. He was outside, busy as ever, fixing something or moving something—just getting on with things as if it were any other day.

I have always loved talking to the older men and women of Ireland. I often dream of setting off across the country, photographing the landscape and listening to the stories of those who have lived through times so different from ours. Irish people are natural storytellers, and some have the rare gift of captivating you completely, pulling you into a world that no longer exists but still lives on through their words.

Deirdre’s father was one of those men. You could see a life of hard work written all over his face. The kind of man who shook your hand with a firm grip, his hands hardened from years of work. A man whose stories carried the weight of history. He was wonderful to chat with, and I’m grateful for the few minutes I got to share with him that morning.

Capturing Precious Moments

When Deirdre messaged me to let me know her father had passed, my mind flooded with memories of that day. I instantly remembered the father-daughter dance—one of those beautiful, fleeting moments that we sometimes don’t realize the significance of until later.

I knew I had some amazing images of him dancing with his daughter, moments that would now hold even deeper meaning. These are the photographs that remind us why wedding photography is so important—not just for the couple, but for their families, for generations to come.

A Stunning Church & A Beautiful Celebration

The ceremony took place in a breathtaking chapel, nestled along a quiet little road. But the moment you stepped onto the grounds, it was like stepping back in time. Towering trees lined the entrance, and the church itself had an old-world beauty, reminiscent of something from Downton Abbey. Inside, it was grand—more like a cathedral than a chapel. A truly special place to exchange vows.

After the ceremony, the celebrations continued at Hotel Kilmore—a stunning venue with an incredible team. The staff couldn’t do enough for everyone, ensuring the day flowed seamlessly. It’s always a joy to work in venues where hospitality is second nature, where you can see the genuine effort put into making the day perfect for the couple and their guests.

Grateful for the Journey

Weddings like this remind me why I love what I do. The people I meet, the stories I get to hear, the places I get to see—these are all memories that stay with me long after the wedding day is over.

Deirdre and Paddy, thank you for letting me be a part of your day. To the wonderful staff at Hotel Kilmore, thank you for your kindness and professionalism. And to Deirdre’s father—thank you for that morning chat and the brief but unforgettable moment in time.

May he rest in peace.
